INTRODUCTION: Singapore Zoo needs no introduction. This 28-hectare open-concept zoo is reputed to be one of the world's best display of animals and top-notched animal conservation programmes.
GETTING HERE: Singapore Zoo is not directly linked to any MRT or LRT stations. A combination of MRT and SBS Transit bus journey is necessary to get here. For my visit to Singapore Zoo's Night Safari, I took the MRT across the suburban housing areas of the city-state to NS4 Chua Chu Kang station, from which I took an SBS Transit bus #927 to Mandai Road and finally the zoo. Alternatively, one can take the MRT to NS16 Ang Mo Kio station and then board an SBS Transit bus #138.
If you are driving from downtown like I did (I visited Singapore Zoo and Night Safari on 2 different days), get on the Central Expressway (CTE) and then Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) from which well-marked road signs will easily guide you to Singapore Zoo. Ample parking space is available. The cost is about SGD3.50 per entry. OPERATING HOURS & ENTRANCE FEES: Singapore Zoo is opened daily from 0830 hrs to 1800 hrs, while its sister attraction, The Night Safari, is opened daily from 1930 hrs to 000 hrs midnight. I would strongly recommend you to purchase the Park Hoppers Special ticket which combines both Singapore Zoo and Night Safari for SGD28 per adult or SGD14 per child of 3-12 years old. Not only it is cost-saving, but the admission ticket is valid for 1 month. That means you can first visit Singapore Zoo and then tour the Night Safari a few days later, or vice versa.
Otherwise, separate entrance tickets for Singapore Zoo and the Night Safari cost SGD15 per adult / SGD7.50 per child and SGD20 per adult / SGD10 per child respectively. LIST OF ATTRACTIONS: Both Singapore Zoo and Night Safari are distinguished in their offering of animal displays. Different sections are strikingly named to resemble exotic places around the world.
