LOCATION: Between Wild Africa and Fragile Forest.
DESCRIPTION: While could easily be mistaken as a subset of the Wild Africa's thematic displays, Cat Country is mainly dedicated to the family of cats.
The star attraction here definitely goes to the African lions - by that I mean 1 dominant male lion and 3-4 lionesses in one enclosure. In the real wilderness, it is actually not uncommon to see 40 individuals in a group. The lion seemed to be sedentary at first until it suddenly moved about and roared proudly much to everyone's attention. The lion itself seems to be old with not much hair left. The lionesses were even less active, even one I saw was napping despite the presence of many onlookers. Other type of cats on display are the cheetahs, leopards and jaguars. The zoo has quite an informative narration on how to differentiate between these three cats. MY VERDICT: A good and educational display of cat family. |
