GETTING HERE:
While the complex which hosts the Mall is facing Marina Bay itself, the closest MRT station is probably EW13/NS25 City Hall (and not NS27 Marina Bay). From here, walk to your right along Raffles Rd until you see Esplanade - The Theatres On The Bay in which the mall is located. You can also arrive at MRT EW14/NS26 Raffles Place from which you find your way to The Merlion and walk across the Esplanade Bridge to the shopping mall. If you are using CityBuzz, all of the C1, C2 and C3 buses will commence at bus stop #1 (Esplanade) and terminate at bus stop #16 (The Oriental Singapore). Both stops will get you to The Esplanade Mall.

DESCRIPTION:
Completed in the year 2002 along with the peculiar-looking Esplanade - The Theatres On The Bay, the Esplanade Mall is probably Singapore's swankiest shopping place of late. It offers some 8,000 m of retail space spreading within 3 level of shop floors.

For me, I found the interior shopping was ordinary. By that I mean it looks like any other shopping malls in Singapore. Nonetheless, I really liked the waterfront section where plenty of wide-open space is provided along with modern landscaping and a good selection of alfresco restaurants. Colours by the Bay is a themed section filled with bars, air-conditioned eateries (it was hot that day!) and walking path that provides spectacular view of the city skyline across Marina Bay.

I had a decent albeit expensive lunch at a cafe called 2Hot Halal Cafe. The menu spread was that of local Singaporean, Indonesian and Nyonya dishes. Other exquisite-looking eateries in Colours by the Bay are Al Dente Trattoria, Beijing La Mian Kicthen, The Garlic Restaurant, Shima Aji Japanese Restaurant and Thai Express.

MY VERDICT:
Swanky mall architecture but rather average shopping experience inside. The waterfront view is good though.
