GETTING HERE:
Located in the heart of Chinatown. To get here on MRT, disembark at either NE3/EW16 Outram Park Station or NE4 Chinatown Station. Then walk along New Bridge Road until you find the entry into Telok Ayer Road. Also accessible by CityBuzz on route C2-#6 (Kreta Ayer) or C2-#7 (Chinatown).

DESCRIPTION:
To me, Kreta Ayer is one of the best precincts in Chinatown to view Singapore's urban rehabilitation programme at its best. The tree-line street is well maintained, the movement of traffic is smooth and the communal living is alive. Not to mention the brightly painted and colorful pre-war buildings converted into exclusive salons or restaurants which add a touch of neatness to Kreta Ayer.

This precinct boasts an active community club where local events are held frequently for its residents. There are also some shopping bazaars here, especially at its intersection with Keong Saik Street but it seemed a little subdued compared to the more lively Eu Tong Sen - New Bridge Road and South Bridge Road.

MY VERDICT:
A great stroll.
